Amazing Grace: A must-see movie for your family

A message from our President, Phil Burress:

It is rare that we would use our e-mail alerts to promote a movie.  Today is an exception.

Last week my wife Vickie and I were invited to a pre-debut showing of the movie AMAZING GRACE.  I simply had to take this opportunity to encourage you to see this outstanding, inspirational movie when it opens in local theatres next weekend, February 23.

AMAZING GRACE tells the story of how the passion and perseverance of one man changed the world.  The movie is based on the true-life story of William Wilberforce, a leader of the British abolition movement, and chronicles his epic struggle to pass a law to end the slave trade in the late 18th century.

Along the way, Wilberforce meets intense opposition from members of Parliament who feel the slave trade is tied to the stability of the British Empire.  Several friends, including John Newton, a reformed slave ship captain who penned the beloved hymn Amazing Grace, urge him to see the cause through.

It was Newton, also, who mentored Wilberforce during a crisis period in his life and helped him to see that his new-found Christian faith was not in conflict with his political calling.  The movie provides a compelling, real-life demonstration of how our faith demands that we become salt and light in our own culture.

Please do not wait until this one comes out on DVD!  We need to demonstrate to the entertainment industry that inspirational films such as AMAZING GRACE can be successes at the box office.
