Obama pays for abortion: Tell Your Rep to Support Life

True to his word…but which?

From WhiteHouse.gov, the AGENDA: “[President Obama] has been a consistent champion of reproductive choice and will make preserving women’s rights under Roe v. Wade a priority in his Administration.”

On the 36th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion – Roe v. Wade – with tens of thousands of citizens at the courthouse steps pleading for a reversal of the landmark verdict, President Obama once again reiterated his desire to “reduce the need for abortion,” consistent with multiple campaign promises to support policies that reduce them altogether.

Sadly, one day later he signed an executive order not only guaranteeing more abortions, but using taxpayer funds to pay for them. As expected, President Obama’s first domestic policy move at the end of the day Friday lifted a ban on federal funding of international organizations that provide or promote abortion. Tom McClusky, Vice President for Government Affairs explained, “The effect of President Obama rescinding the “Mexico City Policy” is that now millions ($461 million in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2008) of dollars are taken away from family planning groups that do not promote abortion, and delivered into the hands of organizations that are the most militant in promoting abortion as a population-control method – especially in countries that find abortion objectionable on moral grounds.” Read more from Tom about the Executive Order by clicking here.

No doubt, a compelling argument could be made for fiscal responsibility. Why are we spending $461 million funding organizations around the world who are involved in population control? Does anyone in Washington, DC understand restraint at a time of financial crisis that we are facing in the United States? Many Democrats will continue to pursue a pro-abortion agenda regardless of the cost, but where are the Republicans who will stand against the abuse of taxpayer dollars?
