Vote NO on S.424, the “Uniting American Families Act” Also, One-man/One-woman marriage still reigns

In New Hampshire – A sad day for truth, marriage and family

Throughout the United States – Truth, marriage and family still reign!

June 4, 2009 – Yesterday evening, Gov. John Lynch of New Hampshire signed into law a bill legalizing “same-sex marriage.”

He had sent a previous version of the bill back to the legislature asking that it be amended to protect religious organizations from being forced to perform same-sex marriages. By a margin of 198-176, the New Hampshire legislature passed the amended version and returned it to the governor.

By signing that bill, Gov. Lynch has trampled on the Biblical truth of one-man/one-woman marriage – the institution that has been, and continues to be, the foundational institution of every thriving society since the beginning of civilization.

Still in the minority, BUT…

On the evening news tonight, every major network will gleefully hail this sad law imposed upon the people of New Hampshire without a vote as a major victory for same-sex marriage advocates. Undoubtedly they’ll describe it as further evidence that the U.S. population is leaning toward acceptance of “same-sex marriage.” They’ll point out that the number of states legalizing “same-sex marriage” has increased three-fold – 200 percent! – in the past two months.

By the numbers…

Three-fold? 200 percent? Yes. From two states to six!

And by our math, that leaves 44 states in which “same-sex marriage” is not recognized or allowed.

Even before looking at the status of marriage in those 44 states, it is important to note how marriage came to be legalized in the six states. In three – Massachusetts, Connecticut and Iowa – “same-sex marriage” was forced upon citizens by the states’ high courts. And in the other three – Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire – legislatures enacted laws to legalize the counterfeit marriages.

In none of the six states in which “same-sex marriage” has been legalized was the decision made by a vote of the people!

In those other 44 states, the numbers tell a different story:

  • 31 of the states in which “same-sex marriage” is not recognized or allowed now have constitutional amendments in place to protect one-man/one-woman marriage from their own court systems;
  • Eight of those states have, in addition, a Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA);
  • Nine other sates have a DOMA, but do not yet have a marriage protection amendment.

Such statistics are not indicative of a national trend toward same-sex marriage!

A Gallup poll released just one week ago confirms those statistics. Gallup’s research shows that Americans now oppose legalizing “gay marriage” by a margin of 57-40 percent. Further, their report shows that the percentage of Americans opposing “same-sex marriage” is still on the rise. In 2007, the margin was 53-46; last year, 56-40.

And to repeat – the very best polls are those in which all people are allowed to vote. In 31 states, voters have said – by close to a 70 percent majority – that marriage as the union of one man and one woman only is a foundational truth.

So why are certain U.S. Senators pushing to change our immigration law to accept same-sex partners?

That’s right! Just yesterday, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee held its first hearing on a bill that would outrage the majority of Americans, and that would violate the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

S.424, the “Uniting American Families Act,” would allow homosexual partners to immigrate to the U.S. with their partners, giving them the same resident status as married spouses. Such a law serves no purpose other than to weaken the unique status of marriage in our country.

For the federal government to change our immigration law to accommodate same-sex partners is to elevate same-sex relationships to the status of married relationships, and that is a clear violation of the federal DOMA.

And resolve to make adherence to the truth of one-man/one-marriage a primary qualification for every federal, state or local candidate whom you support in the future!
