Job Description - Director Of Policy

Citizens for Community Values’ Director of Policy serves as our lead voice at the Ohio Statehouse and with lawmakers. His or her mission is to ensure Ohio public policy builds up families, protects religious freedom, and safeguards the dignity of human life. Professional, personable, highly organized, and deeply passionate about the Gospel and CCV’s mission, the Director of Public Policy plays an essential role in serving state and local lawmakers.

 

Reports to: President

Compensation: Full time, competitive salary and benefits, salaried/exempt

Location: Columbus, semi-regular in-state travel required 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Public Policy 

  • Lead CCV’s efforts to advance CCV’s legislative agenda.
  • Conduct legislative research.
  • Draft legislation and amendments.
  • Prepare and give legislative testimony in support of bills on CCV’s legislative agenda or in opposition to bills that undermine our mission.
  • Discuss bills with legislators and legislative staff members and participate in stakeholders’ meetings.
  • Review legislation introduced in General Assembly & amendments for impact on CCV issues.
  • Attend legislative committee hearings and floor debates on bills of interest.
  • Attend other non-legislative meetings and seminars on issues of interest.
  • Draft Fact Sheets on CCV’s primary bills.
  • Participate in appointments with legislators and other meetings/events as needed.
  • Conduct media interviews as requested on behalf of CCV.
  • Draft editorials and other communications on CCV’s
  • Present CCV’s mission and information on CCV-related issues at public speaking engagements.
  • Provide periodic analysis and reports for management.
  • Assist in producing departmental budget and control expenses to keep on budget.
  • Other relevant duties as directed by the president.

 

Ohio Christian Education Network

  • Interface with member schools of the Ohio Christian Education Network.
  • Act as an intermediary between OCEN schools and the Ohio Department of Education.
  • Support the Executive Director of OCEN in advancing OCEN’s legislative agenda.
  • Aid the President of CCV and Executive Director of OCEN in recruiting schools into the network.
  • Connect Christian school administrators, teachers, and parents with their state lawmakers.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education, Skills, and Experience 

  • Undergraduate degree required. 

  • At least three to five years of experience of policy-related field preferred.

  • Strong research and writing skills. 

  • Attentive to detail. 

  • Ability to communicate orally both effectively and persuasively. 

  • Well-organized, able to operate on a schedule, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. 

  • Self-starter, independent, motivated daily by a passion to see CCV’s work advance. 

  • Ability to be proactive and strive to close gaps in skill and knowledge.

  • Strong time management and organization skills, punctual, able to operate on a schedule, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to remain flexible with ever changing priorities.

  • Thrive in and enjoy working in a multi-tasking, fast-paced work environment; able to get things done, highly efficient.

  • Strong computer skills including: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to master constituent relationship management database system.

  • Knowledge of the Ohio legislative process.
