CCV Releases Statement on Issue 1 Election Results

COLUMBUS—Yesterday, Issue 1 was defeated 57 percent to 43 percent at the ballot, according to unofficial results from the Ohio Secretary of State. Issue 1 would have elevated the threshold to amend the state Constitution to 60 percent. More than 3,000,000 Ohioans participated in the election.

The following statement is from Center for Christian Virtue President Aaron Baer:

“In less than 90 days, Ohioans will decide what kind of state we will leave for our children: a state that safeguards parental rights and cares for the most vulnerable in our communities, or one that exploits and abuses our little ones.

“On November 7, voters will be asked if we want to allow painful late-term abortions to be performed on minors, without parental consent, and whether we want to allow the recreational marijuana industry to wreak havoc on our inner cities and kids.

“We cannot allow Ohio to become California. Issue 1 would have better protected us from these dangerous political schemes, and I will be forever grateful for all the volunteers, church leaders, students, and marketplace leaders that laid it all on the line to fight for this important amendment.

“I’m especially grateful for the partnership of our friends at Protect Women Ohio, SBA Pro-Life America, Right to Life Action Coalition of Ohio, Ohio Right to Life, Ohio Christian Alliance, Created Equal, Ohio Values Voters, and all the political leaders and candidates who tirelessly covered this state in support of such an important cause. We have a strong coalition to win in November!

“Discouragement is not a word we know at Center for Christian Virtue. In fact, we look forward to seeing how Jesus will take this outcome and work it ‘together for good, for those who are called according to His purposes (Romans 8:28).’

“We press on!”
