We need prayer over two bills
A Letter from David Mahan, CCV Policy Executive Director
It's a big week for two priority bills for children, women, and families in Ohio, and we desperately need your prayers to cover our Statehouse.
Earlier today, the Success Sequence (SB156) was passed out of the House Education Committee, meaning it could go to a floor vote as soon as tomorrow.
The Success Sequence, a proven formula to help young adults avoid poverty and achieve the American Dream, is one of the key policy solutions to strengthen Ohio families suggested in Center for Christian Virtue’s Hope and a Future report.
SB156 requires the development of standards and model curriculum for teaching the Success Sequence in grades 6-12. Students would need to receive instruction in at least one class before being eligible to graduate high school.
Please be praying specifically for the Speaker of the House to bring SB156 to a vote and for the representatives to be united in passing it.
In addition, the Patient Protect Act (HB324) will have a hearing tomorrow during the 10:30 am Senate Health Committee session (watch it here).
HB324 requires in-person exams, clear disclosure of risks, and follow-up care for drugs that cause serious adverse effects in over 5 percent of patients.
A recent study shows that mifepristone leads to serious complications—hemorrhaging, sepsis, hospitalization—for nearly 1 in 9 women, which is 22x higher than the FDA’s label suggests. The bill ensures patients have the information and supervision needed for their safety.
I ask for your prayers as I prepare to give proponent testimony in favor of the bill, and for the Members to be moved to pass this life-saving bill.
Gratefully,
David Mahan
