At the Statehouse: Teaching kids the Success Sequence, protecting them online

Two of Center for Christian Virtue’s (CCV) priority bills received hearings this week—and we were on the frontlines, helping turn biblical principles into action at the Statehouse.

1) SB167 – Require Parental Controls on App Stores
In an era of digital exposure, SB167 empowers parents to protect their children from harmful content by requiring app stores to include parental controls.

CCV’s Legislative Liaison Ryan Folz testified in support of this commonsense legislation as a critical tool for family protection

2) SB156 – Teaching the Success Sequence
The Success Sequence—a proven formula to help young adults avoid poverty and achieve the American Dream—is one of the key policy solutions suggested in CCV’s Hope and a Future report to strengthen Ohio families.

This week, SB156 advanced when the Senate Education Committee voted to send it to the full Senate for consideration. The bill is expected to receive a Senate Chamber vote as soon as next Wednesday, October 22.

If passed, SB156 would require the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce to develop standards and model curriculum for teaching the Success Sequence in grades 6 through 12. Students would also need to receive Success Sequence instruction in at least one class before they are eligible to graduate high school.

What’s next?

Together, these two bills protect children and promote the flourishing of Ohio communities. CCV will continue to testify, advise lawmakers, and stand at the frontlines—because Ohio families, children, and life deserve a faithful advocate in the Statehouse.

All bills must pass through both Chambers of the Ohio Statehouse to be sent to the governor for his approval to become law. You can learn more about the lawmaking process by joining CCV's email list or visiting our website at CCV.org.
