CCV to Ohio Supreme Court: Protect Children from Transgender Medicine

COLUMBUSCenter for Christian Virtue (CCV), in partnership with Independent Women’s Forum (IWF), has filed an amicus brief with the Ohio Supreme Court in Moe v. Yost, urging the Court to uphold Ohio’s Saving Ohio Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act. The SAFE Act, enacted in 2024, prohibits harmful and experimental gender transition procedures—including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries—on children.

The filing emphasizes that Ohio’s Constitution grants the General Assembly the authority—and indeed the responsibility—to protect children from dangerous and ideologically driven medical experiments. The brief warns that so-called “standards of care” promoting puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors “are more political advocacy than medical science” and that the push to transition children reflects “ideology, not science.”

“Our brief demonstrates that no one has a constitutional right to subject children to these harmful, unproven procedures,” said Benjamin M. Flowers, counsel for amici curiae Independent Women’s Forum and Center for Christian Virtue and partner at Ashbrook, Byrne, Kresge, Flowers LLC. “The General Assembly acted well within its constitutional authority when it passed the SAFE Act to protect Ohio’s children.”

This filing comes as even major medical institutions are reversing course. Earlier this year, Nationwide Children’s Hospital announced that it would end all transgender procedures on minors, citing the SAFE Act’s protections and aligning with a growing number of medical bodies worldwide that have pulled back from experimental gender medicine for children.

Aaron Baer, President of Center for Christian Virtue, added:

“The SAFE Act is already making Ohio a leader in protecting children from radical gender ideology. The fact that Nationwide Children’s Hospital has stopped performing these procedures shows the wisdom and impact of this law. Every child deserves to grow up free from irreversible harm, and today CCV and IWF stand united in defending that truth.”

The Ohio Supreme Court is expected to hear arguments in the case later this year. CCV and IWF remain committed to standing for truth and safeguarding children from medical practices that cause irreversible damage.
