Ian Rowe, Brad Wilcox to Testify on “Success Sequence” at Ohio Statehouse

Today at 2:15 pm, leading family and education experts Ian Rowe and Brad Wilcox will testify before the House Education Committee on SB156, a bill that would require Ohio students to learn the Success Sequence before graduating high school. You can tune in to watch live.

The Success Sequence is a research-backed framework showing that young adults who finish high school, work full-time, and marry before having children are far more likely to avoid poverty and achieve the American Dream. It’s a key solution to strengthen Ohio families highlighted in CCV’s Hope and a Future report.

SB156 would require the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce to develop standards and a model curriculum for teaching the Success Sequence in grades 6–12. Students would need instruction in at least one class before graduating from high school.

Brad Wilcox, one of the primary authors of the Hope and a Future report and a longtime researcher with the Institute for Family Studies (IFS), brings decades of expertise on marriage, family stability, and public policy.

Ian Rowe, a nationally recognized expert on race, education, and family, has research-backed insights on how education, stable employment, and marriage contribute to stronger families and thriving communities.

After today’s hearing, if the House Education Committee passes the bill, SB156 would move to a vote before the full Ohio House. If approved there, it would then advance to the Governor for final consideration.
