Take Action: The Pro-Life Movement is on the Move!

COLUMBUS—Members of the Ohio House of Representatives are set to vote this week on two critical pro-life bills: House Bill 485 (HB485), sponsored by Rep. Melanie Miller (R-Ashland), and House Bill 324 (HB324), sponsored by Rep. Adam Mathews (R-Lebanon) and Rep. Meredith Craig (R-Smithville).

HB485—The Baby Olivia Act requires all Ohio public schools to teach human growth and development in grades 5–12. This includes showing a high-definition ultrasound video of early fetal development and a video, such as Meet Baby Olivia, that depicts each stage of a baby's uterine development from fertilization to birth. The House Education Committee is expected to vote on the Baby Olivia Act on Tuesday, November 18.

HB324—The Patient Protection Act safeguards women from misleading claims about drugs with serious risks. A recent study shows that mifepristone leads to serious complications—hemorrhaging, sepsis, hospitalization—for nearly 1 in 9 women, 22x higher than the FDA’s label suggests. The bill requires common-sense safeguards: in-person exams, clear disclosure of risks, and follow-up care to ensure patients have the information and supervision needed for their safety. The House Health Committee is expected to vote on the Patient Protection Act on Wednesday, November 19.

"Ohioans need these bills to pass for two reasons: Truth and transparency. The Baby Olivia Act will ensure that the human development instruction already being taught to students will no longer omit the most critical and formative stages of the process," said David Mahan, Policy Executive Director at Center for Christian Virtue.

"The Patient Protection Act will ensure that individuals being prescribed medication that have been found to cause serious adverse effects in over 5% of patients will receive the proper care and information they deserve."
