Two pro-life bills move at the Statehouse this week

The Ohio legislature is back in session, and God's already moving at the Ohio Statehouse.

Yesterday, CCV’s David Mahan testified in support of the Patient Protection Act (HB324)–sponsored by Rep. Adam Mathews (R-Lebanon) and Rep. Meredith Craig (R-Smithville). This bill safeguards women from misleading claims about drugs with serious risks. A recent study shows that mifepristone leads to serious complications—hemorrhaging, sepsis, hospitalization—for nearly 1 in 9 women, 22x higher than the FDA’s label suggests.

HB324 requires common-sense safeguards: in-person exams, clear disclosure of risks, and follow-up care for any drug causing a severe adverse effect in more than 5% of patients.

David reminded lawmakers that patients deserve the truth and that Ohio has a duty to protect citizens with proper safeguards.

In the same hearing, Rep. Mike Odioso (R-Green Twp.) and Rep. Josh Williams (R-Sylvania Twp.) introduced the SHE WINS Act (HB347). This bill ensures women considering abortion receive complete, accurate information about medical risks, alternatives, and available resources—putting power back in the hands of women instead of providers who seek to keep them in the dark.

Together, HB324 and HB347 push back the culture of death with truth and compassion. CCV will continue to stand at the frontlines, testifying, bringing in expert witnesses, and advancing policies that defend life.

Understanding the Bill Process

Both bills are currently under consideration in the Ohio House Health Committee. From here, they must pass out of committee before moving to the full House for a vote.

All bills must pass through both Chambers of the Ohio Statehouse to be sent to the governor for his approval to become law. You can learn more about the lawmaking process by joining CCV's email list and visiting our website, CCV.org.
