President Donald Trump delivered his closing midterm campaign message Monday at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. He also participated in nine tele-rallies throughout the day, one day before Tuesday’s elections.
The stop capped a weeks-long campaign push across more than 20 states as Republicans work to maintain control of Congress. Trump made 30 in-person political appearances since August, including more than 27 rallies in October. He held in-person campaign stops in Iowa and Kansas on Sunday after those stops were restored to the schedule.
Alex Bruesewitz, a senior adviser to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign who traveled with him on roughly 10 to 15 recent trips, said moving a sitting president is different from a normal campaign event. “When you’re doing an event moving the current president of the United States, the logistics that go into it are nuts,” he said. He said the effort includes White House staff, Republican operatives, campaign aides, advance teams, the White House Office of Political Affairs, the Office of Public Liaison and the Republican National Committee.
White House spokesperson Olivia Wales said Trump’s closing message is that Republican control of Congress would mean “safer streets, lower taxes, secure borders, and energy dominance.” The rallies also included appearances by Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield and Nicki Minaj, including a Port Huron, Michigan, event that Bruesewitz said drew a packed arena despite a Detroit Lions game.
The final day underscores the national stakes of Tuesday’s vote. Control of Congress will determine how much support Trump has for his agenda on taxes, public safety, border policy and energy, issues that affect households, schools and communities across the country.
