BREAKING: Hamilton County judge blocks heartbeat law for two weeks

CINCINNATI—On Wednesday, Hamilton County Judge Christian Jenkins issued a 14-day restraining order to block the state's enforcement of the Heartbeat Law, which protects unborn babies from abortion once a heartbeat is detected. Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, and other pro-abortion activists filed in the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas after moving to have the Ohio Supreme Court dismiss the case they had filed earlier this year.

With this order, legal abortion in Ohio is temporarily expanded to 20 weeks of pregnancy.

The following statement is from Center for Christian Virtue President Aaron Baer:

"Judge Jenkins' order blocking the Heartbeat Bill is a disgrace. The order reads more like a Huffington Post blog than a judicial decision. He has massively overstepped the role of the judiciary by legislating from the bench.

"This nonsensical and irresponsible order must be overturned so that Ohio can go back to protecting unborn children, and to restore trust in a functioning government where legislators make law, and judges don't.

"No honest person can read the Ohio Constitution and think there is an abortion mandate in law.

"I am grateful to have a leader like Attorney General Dave Yost at the helm to fight against this lawless order."
