CCV’s Statement on the Assassination of Charlie Kirk
COLUMBUS–Charlie Kirk, founder and president of Turning Point USA, was assassinated this afternoon during a campus event at Utah Valley University.
Charlie was scheduled to speak at Center for Christian Virtue’s (CCV) September 26 Gala in Cleveland. Plans for that event will be released in the coming days. Center for Christian Virtue asks you to join us in prayer for Charlie’s wife and children, along with the entire TPUSA team.
The following statement is from CCV President Aaron Baer:
“Charlie Kirk pointed a generation of young Americans to love our nation, and more importantly, follow Jesus. His response to attacks and criticisms was open and free dialogue with those who most disagreed with him.
“Charlie was the quintessential American: he leveraged our First Amendment free speech rights to influence change. He went to the very places where people would most disagree with him to engage in honest conversation, to open minds, soften hearts, and plant seeds of understanding that might one day bear the fruit of real change in this country. Yet during this act on a college campus, he was murdered. Jesus, have mercy on our country.
“We mourn for Charlie’s wife and two children, and we will pray without ceasing for an end to this hateful spirit in our country. But like Charlie did during his 31 courageous years, we will continue to stand on the eternal word of Jesus, and for the freedoms that have allowed so many Americans to prosper.”
