BREAKING: DeWine Signs CCV-Backed Pro-Life Bill

Governor DeWine Signs Bill Protecting Abortion Survivors, Cutting off Tax Dollars from Funding Abortions, and Potentially Shutting Down Two Abortion Clinics

COLUMBUS—Today Governor DeWine signed CCV-backed Senate Bill 157, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, into law. This law includes two major pro-life victories:

  • Requires medical professionals to provide life-sustaining care to children who survive a botched abortion.

  • Prohibits medical professionals who receive taxpayer-funded salaries from working for or contracting with abortion facilities.

This new law has the potential to shut down two abortion clinics in southwest Ohio—Women’s Med Center in Dayton and Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio—who rely on state-funded doctors for their abortions.

“Today the state of Ohio has made a bold statement about where our values lie—with women, children, and families—not with the abortion industry which demeans and exploits them,” said Nilani Jawahar, Legislative Liaison for the Center for Christian Virtue (CCV). “The Born Alive Infant Protection Act, with all its life-affirming provisions, is a declaration that Ohio will fight back wherever we can to keep our beautiful state from becoming a dark place where the weak and helpless are discarded to serve the interests of the powerful.”

The law goes into effect in 90 days.
