Ohio Father to State Supreme Court: Protect Girls’ Sports and My Daughter’s Right to Fair Play

Family Files Motion to Intervene with State Supreme Court over HB 68 Litigation

COLUMBUS – An Ohio father has filed a motion to intervene with the Ohio Supreme Court on behalf of his ninth-grade daughter in the ongoing litigation over House Bill 68. The law, which was due to take effect today, contains provisions to protect children from transgender ideology in both medicine and athletics.

The state’s highest court is considering the litigation after Attorney General Dave Yost filed an emergency request with the court to amend or overturn an illegal decision by Franklin County Judge Michael Holbrook completely blocking the law from taking effect while the trial moves forward.

“Dads have a duty to stand up for their daughters, and the Ohio father in this case is not going to be silent while the ACLU tries to force his daughter to compete against boys,” said Aaron Baer, president of Center for Christian Virtue. “Title IX has guaranteed that girls have a right to fair play for decades. The ACLU and their out of state attorneys should stop trying to force their dangerous political ideology on our kids.”

The father is filing on behalf of his ninth-grade daughter who still has two weeks left in her softball season this year, and most of her high school career still ahead of her.

As the filing says “The Franklin County judge’s statewide injunction puts Doe in unprecedented situations and forces her to assume the risks of losing once-in-a-lifetime athletic opportunities compounded by the increased risks of physical injury.”

The family is being represented by James Kresge, Ben Flowers, and Andrew McCartney of Ashbrook Byrne Kresge LLC.
